I first encountered tis stone in a collection of short gemstone strands I found for sale at a craft fair. I was only just getting into beading at the time so I had never heard of it before. the purple banding, ranging from light and translusent lavender to solid, strikingly banded dark purple intrigued me so I snapped it up. I realized later there was also some distinct greenish coloring to many of the stones.
Rather than a place, person or composite material, fluorite is named for its tendency to fluoresce under ultra-violet light. It's not a garanteed occurance, however, so UV lighting isn't a reliable soothsayer of true fluorite.
The rainbow qualities I mentioned above are the source of fluorite's spiritual properties. It allows us to let go of our stresses and relax at the simplicity and infinate complexity of beauty, giving us balance in our hectic lives.
